A Dumfries side travelled to play a fixture last Thursday against Galloway as part of their cricket week. The visiting team enjoyed their game at the Gatehouse ground, and also managed to come away with a win.
Dumfries 149 all out, Galloway 98 for 9
Dumfries batted first in the 30 over a side match and the innings main-stay was a middle order score of 37 by Sam Thornely after a wicket each from Druce and McGrath removed the openers and then Carr removed three more. A final total of 149 all out in the final over was assisted by cameo twenties from Tapiwa Mufudza and Captain Chris McCutcheon.
The fielding side then managed to perform even when full of a generous tea of curry and cake. Stuart Alexander struck early in the Galloway reply with a fine delivery nipping back to hit the stumps. However the bulk of the wicket taking was provided by the younger members of the side and effectively on their first team debuts. First change spinner Vaughn Staples took a wicket bowled with his second ball and followed that with the next three to finish with four wickets. His fellow U15s teammate Sean Thornely followed that with two more as Galloway finished short on 96 for 9 with Bradley unbeaten on 27 not out. More significant than that win however was that it was good to see the tradition and hospitality of the Gatehouse Cricket Week back on the local cricketing schedule. The Thomson and Jardine Joiners Player of the Match for Dumfries was Sam Thornely for constructing a challenging winning target with his innings.

Title Challenge
With no seconds match scheduled a rain cancellation of the Croma Vigilant Dumfries fixture at Renfrew left a blank Saturday for the Nunholm sides. However the Dumfries side remains at the top of the West First Division and one more win in their two remaining fixtures would see them as league champions. They play away at third placed Kelburne on Saturday. Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm, play at Ayr. The Women’s Scottish Cup game on Sunday at West of Scotland was also affected and has been rescheduled for Saturday.
