Members of Galloway Branch of The pony Club have been busy travelling to their annual Area 19 competitions recently. The Tetrathlon competitions were held at Forgandenny and Kilgraston School near Perth on Tuesday 17th July. Young Megan McIlwraith brought home a fantastic 4th rosette as a Mini and Laura Donnan won her Regional class. Big sister, Emma Donnan came 2nd in her novice tetrathlon class and qualified for the next level which will be later in the year.
The very next day came the dressage discipline at Morris Equestrian Centre near Fenwick on Wednesday 18th July. The Junior team of Georgie Barr, Tammy Campbell and Jenni Brooke won their class which was a great achievement. The same team joined by Ella Wallace did the Regional class and came 4th which allows them to qualify for the next level at the Ian Stark Equestrian Centre next month. The novice dressage team of Izzy Miller-Smith, Hannah Torbet and Isla Forsyth came joint 10th. Isla came 5th in her arena which was a great standard.
Lots of ponies, members and mums stayed over for the show jumping the next day. 2 teams represented Galloway in the Regional class which was very busy with 75 combinations taking part. The A Team of Laura Donnan, Kirsty Fisher and Erin Thompson and B Team of Jenni Brooke, Georgie Barr, Charlotte and Phoebe Gaw were not placed but put in good rounds. Charlotte and Phoebe went in to jump for a 3rd round as 4-faulters for individual placings with Charlotte placing 6th. Both girls successfully qualified as individuals for ISEC also. With this class taking up the indoor arena for most of the day, Galloway’s only Junior entrant was young Erin Jamieson who didn’t do her first round until 6.30pm and her 2nd round at 8pm, she put in 2 super rounds for her first trip to Morris and should get a special award for patience! The novice team of Ella Wallace, Izzy Miller-Smith, Isla Forsyth and Susannah Service jumped in a big class and were not placed but good experience for horses and riders. The intermediate team of Emma Donnan, Caitlin and Quinn Jolly jumped well over a big course and won 5th place.
Although there were no prizes for tack and turnout this year, DC Wendy Miller-Smith, praised everyone for their effort and hoped that everyone had enjoyed themselves. Well done to all riders who represented Galloway so well at these events and best of luck to girls travelling to Selkirk!
