With the outstanding success of The Tour de France’s visit to Yorkshire this month and the explosion of cycling in the country how better to showcase Dumfries and Galloway than a cycle ride around the beautiful countryside.
The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright are running their 4th Annual Cycle Event from Kirkcudbright on Saturday 9th August – GallowayRecycleSportive.
This year the club has added a 30 mile course to the event as a means for newcomers and less experienced riders to see the beauty of the area. They will be treated to a Feed Station at 19 miles where they will meet up with riders from the 67 and 103 mile rides and be able to take a rest, food and drink before continuing on their journey back to Kirkcudbright, for a well-earned bowl of delicious soup, tea and cakes.
The event can be entered on line at www.gallowayrecyclesportive.co.uk – to date this event has raised over £12,000 for charities.
Some quotes from previous participants:
“The first Galloway Recycle sportive was superb. The course was really enjoyable and the event marshalls and volunteers were amazing.
The soup and rolls waiting for us on our return to Kirkcudbright were especially nice and much needed. Bring on next year.”- Brian Harrison, Newton Stewart
Just wanted to say thanks for the event on Saturday which I thoroughly enjoyed. The route was lovely with not too many climbs, very little traffic and some of the best local scenery. The organisation was excellent, from a very efficient sign-on, through a well signed and marshalled (extra thanks to them!) route and some very welcome and extremely tasty soup at the finish! I do hope this becomes a regular event and that I’m fit enough for the 102 next year!!- Alison Crooks, Dumfries
I would like to pass on my thanks to all the organisers, volunteers and sponsors of this event. It was a superb day out, tremendous route and excellent support. The soup and bun at the end was particularly welcome. Being an 80kg rider, I find the Lake District sportives are all about killing yourself over climb after climb. I found the hills of Galloway much more suited to my physique and could attack the course from the word go. I achieved my best ever result in a ride and am looking forward to next year when I can prepare better and try to improve the time.- Fraser Robinson, Penrith
Just like to say a big thanks to all Organiser’s, marshall’s and helpers for this great sportive really enjoyed the route and scenery and will hopefully be back next year.- Phillip Carter, Huddersfield
