INAUGURAL STEWARTRY RFC GIRLS UNDER 12 RUGBY FESTIVAL HUGE SUCCESS

Sunday 16th February saw the first ever Girls U12s festival at Stewartry rugby club. With over 50 girls in attendance, all the players had a chance to develop their skills on the pitch as well as making friends off the pitch.

Stewartry hosted teams from Ayr, Marr, Biggar, Annan, Dumfries and Moffat. It was exciting to see how all the girls have progressed at this level, with lots of tries being scored in all the matches. We were also very lucky to have three members of the Men’s First XV there as referees for the games: Harry, Angus and Tam, as well as Hannah from the Sirens offering her help and support. The Stewartry girls loved having some of the Sirens there cheering them on.

We also had a brilliant crowd of parents, and supporters who enjoyed the hospitality provided by the Grub Hut, plenty of soup and traybakes were consumed! A huge thank you to all the parents that have supported the team this season and helped the event to run without a hitch. Hot dogs were enjoyed in the clubhouse afterwards, and lots of smiles all round.

The U12s have played in several festivals this season at Marr, Ayr and Waysiders in Glasgow. It has all been a fantastic experience for the girls; from beginning the season in August with no rugby experience to speak of it has been amazing to see how much they have progressed and developed their skills and confidence. The U12s coaches Iain and Stewart have done an amazing job encouraging and supporting all the girls by making the sessions enjoyable and fun, as well as improving their rugby skills and fitness.

For any girls that would like to come along and try U12s rugby we have sessions on a Tuesday evening at 6.45pm until 7pm, it would be great to see some new faces.

Likewise, if there are any businesses out there that would like to support the team, please let us know: there are several sponsorship options available.
