The first ladies indoor tournament of the season took place at the David Keswick Centre on 20th November. Galloway fielded two teams The Swans and The Kites along with a team from Dumfries and a team from Stirling. After all the teams had played each other, there were two play offs for first, second and third places.
Galloway Swans, captained by Jessica McCulloch, played a strong Stirling team for first place. The Galloway sided batted first with captain Jessica McCulloch opening with Laura Scobie. These girls proved a strong partnership taking runs on almost every ball. After Laura was run out Julie McCulloch came on and this mother daughter partnership put on a good show. Stirling fought back bravely but the Galloway side showed good fielding skills to clinch victory.
Galloway Kites, captained by Natalie Hamblin played Dumfries for third and fourth place. The inexperienced Dumfries side performed well but Galloway managed to sneak a win. Jo Williams performed well in her first tournament scoring a four and taking a wicket and she was named player of the match for Galloway.
Great fun was had by all with a chance to develop skills in a friendly and sporting atmosphere. Thanks to Stirling for making the journey and Cricket Scotland’s Rosy Ryan for organising the event. Thanks also to our own Fraser Conn for supporting the Galloway Ladies and umpiring.
The next tournament will be in Dollar on 11th December. Any ladies or girls interested in finding out more about this fun sport contact Natalie Hamblin on 07872909010 or [email protected]
