Lockerbie Cluster Golf A Fore-Midable Success

The Primary School Golf competition organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council was held at Lockerbie Golf Club on Saturday 7 May.  The competition seen pupils from 8 primary schools in the Lockerbie area compete in a number of fun and competitive games which tested the skills they have been taught within school golf taster sessions.

 

The competition was run by Annandale and Eskdale Active Schools and Community Sport and Lockerbie Golf Club.  It brought together children from various primary schools across the Lockerbie Primary School Cluster. The competition was supported by a number of local coaches and Lockerbie Academy Senior pupil volunteers.  The competition offered a fun and competitive mix of games that included a Texas scramble, best putt, chip and drive competition and overall school winner trophy.

 

After a day of fun and competitive golf the results were as follows: –

Chairman of the Council’s Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie said;

 

“It is great to see a revival in the game of golf in the Lockerbie school cluster. There are now a number of opportunities for children at every level on the participation pathway and the number of young people playing is very encouraging.

 

Lockerbie Golf Club Coach Lawson McLean said;

“It was great to see so many Lockerbie Primary Schools take part in this event with a great atmosphere and passion for golf displayed by all pupils taking part.”

The club has a “Golf School”, of which membership is not essential, and meets every Thursday night from 4pm to 6pm.  Everyone is made very welcome and equipment can be provided.
