Magnox Limited and the Council’s Active Schools for Community Sport in Annandale and Eskdale are celebrating their on-going Sports Partnership Agreement, which is now into its tenth successive year.
Sean Marshall, Magnox Limited Communications and Socio-Economics Lead Officer for Scottish Sites, was joined by Councillor Jeff Leaver, Chair of the Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning Committee for Dumfries and Galloway Council to sign the partnership agreement that will see £7,650 invested into local sport in Annandale and Eskdale.
The investment will support the on-going Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport (PEPAS) Calendar which is developed and delivered in partnership with schools, teachers and sports clubs across Annandale and Eskdale and covers 23 school and community sports events in the next academic year.
Joining Sean and Councillor Leaver at the signing of the agreement were young people from Annan Academy who are part of a Young Leadership Academy Programme with Active Schools and Community Sport. Part of the funding from Magnox will also be used to develop the next generation of future sport coaches, leaders and teachers to build capacity and help meet the growing demand for sport and physical activity across the area.
Council Jeff Leaver said “This continued support from Magnox Limited is excellent and we must recognise how this funding can make a significant impact for schools, young people and the community in our area. This agreement and the work it entails meets our council priorities to provide the best start in life for all our children and be inclusive. It will support children to be healthy and active, raise ambition and attainment in young people, and improve skills in our communities and staff.”
Sean Marshall said: “This is the tenth year in which Magnox Limited has been involved in this successful local partnership. We at Chapelcross are delighted to not only enter into this agreement again with the Council’s Active Schools and Community Sport Team in Annandale and Eskdale, but more than double the amount awarded this year to help develop employment and training opportunities in sports coaching for young people in our region. This will give thousands of young people the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of sporting opportunities and events and help some on the road to achievements at local, regional, national and even international level.”
