Great Britain Under-18 Women’s Ice Hockey Team have named their squad for next month’s U18 World Championship Division 1 Group B in Katowice, and local Solway Sharks Juniors player Megan Gourlay is delighted to be included in the squad. 15 year old Megan, who attends Dumfries High School, has been playing ice hockey for the past two seasons and is a regular in the Solway under 16s team, as well as turning out for the Sharks Ladies team.
The six-team tournament runs from Saturday 6th to Friday 12th January 2018, and GB will come up against hosts Poland, along with Australia, China, Denmark and France GB Women’s Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “I think this is a very exciting squad and we are looking forward to going to Poland. The squad gained so much experience in November’s tournament in Spain and we took a lot from that weekend. A World Championship is a tough level of competition and this is a very young squad, but there is so much talent. It will be a tough week but the coaching staff are confident in this squad’s ability and they can’t wait to get out onto the ice.”
Solway Juniors head coach Martin Grubb commented, “This is a tremendous accomplishment for Megan, who has reached the highest level possible in making the GB team. This is a just reward for the hard work she puts in on and off the ice, and her positive attitude. We all wish her and the rest of the GB team every success, and I am sure she will do very well in Poland.”
