Stranraer’s Millennium FC u/14 girls have won the MG ALBA Scottish Womens Football Youth Team of the year for their performance in 2021.
Their fellow nominees were Rangers u/19s, Rangers u/16s and Glasgow City development u/15s. The team along with coaches and parents attended the glittering awards ceremony at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel Glasgow on Saturday 4th June to experience the event not really thinking that they would win.
Amidst much excitement it eventually came to their category and to the delight of all those who attended from Stranraer they were announced as the winners.
The judges said ‘despite significant geographical challenges, Millennium FC have provided opportunities to local girls not only to participate but also to win. They exemplify the best aspects of the grassroots game.’
During the season concerned the team travelled 1500 miles to fulfil their away fixtures travelling across D&G, Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. They were unbeaten in their league campaign winning all but one game which they drew and were crowned Erin Cuthbert Southwest champions receiving the league cup for their efforts.
