Over one hundred girls took part in a Primary Girls Football Festival organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council on Tuesday 8 March.
The event, held at Dumfries High School 3G facility, saw 12 Primary Schools attend, with the girls from Primary 4 through to Primary 7. Fun games were the order of the afternoon and not even the rain could dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the girls as they all played with a smile on their faces.
The schools in attendance were;
Kelloholm
Lochside
St Andrew’s
Troqueer
Caerlaverock
Heathhall
Lincluden
Georgetown
St Ninian’s
Laurieknowe
Kirkbean
Shawhead
Plans are already in place to provide the girls with further opportunities to develop their football skills on top of the after school visits already taking place.
Chairman of the Council’s Community and Customer Services Committee Tom McAughtrie commented;
“It is pleasing to see so many girls taking part in events like this. Our Council is committed to being an inclusive Council as well as giving children the best start in life, and events like this football festival help us achieve these ‘goals’. The Council funded 3G facilities across the region allow us to facilitate events like this no matter what the elements throw at us. Well done to all who took part on the day.”
