195 Primary 5 pupils from 11 Nithsdale Primary Schools congregated at the Crichton Golf Club on recently to take part in the annual Active Schools and Community Sport tri-golf festival.
The event, which ran over a morning and afternoon session, allowed the pupils to try their hand at chipping, putting, skills stations and a 9-hole mini course superbly coached by qualified coaches from the Crichton Golf Club.
The afternoon pupils got the chance to meet local golfer, Rachel Walker, who was runner-up in the Scottish Ladies Amateur Championship last year. Rachel is currently studying in Virginia, U.S.A. so this was special visit back to Dumfries.
At the end of the event each child received a certificate and information on how to enrol in junior golf lessons at the Crichton Golf Club.
Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee, Councillor Tom McAughtrie said: “It’s great that so many children were able to participate in this event. The tri-golf festival was highly enjoyed by all the children who took part and thanks must be given to organisers for offering and delivering this fantastic opportunity. It’s a great opportunity for kids to get out in the fresh, air, have fun and try their hand at a new sport.
