Olympic curler Anna Sloan and Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the Education Committee, attended the schools’ regional athletics championships.
Young athletes from all 16 secondary schools across Dumfries and Galloway participated in the track and field events at the David Keswick Athletics Centre in Dumfries, having qualified from heats at their own schools.
Councillor Leaver presented the Secondary School Sports League trophy, which is awarded to the school amassing most aggregate points from regional sports competitions.
Councillor Leaver said, “Providing the best start in life for all our children is a priority for our Council. School sports programmes are vital in encouraging young people to be physically active by increasing their participation in a wide range of sports. Events such as this are key to improving sporting performance through competition. I thank all the participants and congratulate the winners.”
