Queen of the South Ladies & Girls FC Hold awards Night

Queen of the South Ladies & Girls FC held their annual awards night recently.  Girls from all the age groups were present to receive awards, which were presented by Kirsty Howat of Glasgow City FC & Ellis Dalglish of Rangers FC.

Queen of the South Ladies & Girls FC now have in place a full pathway for girls to play football at U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 & U17 level, with the next step being the restoration of a Queen of the South Ladies team.  Sally Hammond & Vic Mclean (above) have worked hard over the last 5 years to create a full development pathway for girls’ football in the region, and finally the structure is complete.  Queens have U7 & U9 girls playing Fun Fours, U11s playing 7 a side against local boys’ teams, and the U13s competing in the performance league against the top teams from around Scotland.  The younger U15 team (U15 Whites) will still be playing at U15 level next season, having achieved an excellent fourth place league finish this season.  This year’s U15 Blues squad, fresh from finishing as runners up in the league, will now move up to U17 level;  this squad includes some girls who have been with Queens since the start of their football journey.  Queens have girls in the U11 to U15 age groups who have been selected for the SWFA regional performance squads.

With the club now based at the north West Community Campus in Dumfries, teams train once or twice a week, but on top of the training commitments by players and coaches, there is a lot of work involved in arranging fixtures, organising transport to away games, updating coaching qualifications, registering players and a lot of other matters that need to be dealt with to keep the club running smoothly.

The club would like to thank all sponsors for their invaluable support; also the parents for bringing girls to training and matches from all over the region, and for supporting the teams wherever they play.  All those involved in running the club are volunteers and with the increase in numbers of teams, the NWCC is a busy place for Girls’ football in Dumfries & Galloway these days.
