Queen Of The South Ladies Continue Winning Streak

Queens Ladies extended their undefeated league run with a convincing win over Stewarton Ladies at the North West Community Campus on Wednesday evening.  Queens were on the front foot right from kick off and created a string of chances in the first quarter of the game, but striker Holly Ovens couldn’t convert any of them until the 24th minute when she was put through on goal after some good first time passing down the left and she fired the ball into the net to give Queens a deserved lead.  Queens continues to press, with their opponents having few chances, and after 40 minutes, Queens’ other striker, Lois Geddes blasted the ball into the roof of the net to double Queens’ lead.

The second half had barely started when Lois Geddes added her second and Queens’ third goal, placing the ball into the corner from close range.  Three minutes later, a Queens corner from the right was volleyed into the net by Charlotte Smith as Queens turned up the heat. Lois Geddes completed her hat trick on 63 minutes with a stunning finish, her shot from the right high hand side of the area rising over the keeper and into the far corner.  Queens were completely in control for most of the half, although keeper Sophie Ingram had to rush back to her line after a though ball was lobbed over her head by the Stewarton striker, Sophie just managing to reach the ball on the line and claw it away.  Queens weren’t finished and Eve Jackson, on as a substitute, added two more goals in the 64th and 81st minutes, her first from close in and her second a shot from distance.  Final score 7-0 to Queens Ladies, but even that scoreline didn’t reflect Queens’ superiority, with some superb passing football being played, particularly in the second half.  Queens still top the league going into their next fixture this Sunday, a “local” derby against Millenium Ladies at Stranraer.
