Queen of the South Ladies had to dig deep to take the three points from Edinburgh Caledonia Ladies at Meadowbank.
Queens opened the scoring after 20 minutes through captain Charlotte Smith and there was no further scoring by half time. However Caledonia put the pressure on Queens in the second half and they equalised after 55 minutes and then took the lead in the 69th minute.
Queens head coach Ross Meechan made several tactical changes to lift Queens’ game, bringing on Emily Butcher & Megan Hodgson in midfield and Eve Crombie up front, and immediately the tweaking helped, with Queens equalising in the 75th minute from a Charlotte Bryden free kick that the keeper managed to reach but couldn’t hold, the ball ending up in the net. Queens were on the ascendancy but it wasn’t until the final minute of the game that they got a vital winner, Eve Crombie getting on the end of a Megan Hodgson assist to beat the keeper to the ball and secure the three points that keep Queens in touch with the leaders.
Queens have a free weekend this week.
