Queen of the South Ladies were presented with the Biffa SWFL (South) league trophy on Sunday after playing an exhibition game following Stewart Ladies’ forfeiture of the scheduled league fixture.
A large crowd saw the two Queens teams, led out by Charlotte Smith and Siobhan Hodgson, applauded on to the pitch by members of the younger age group teams.
There followed an entertaining and competitive match, with some of the coaches coming on as substitutes midway through the second half. A great time was had by all, and when the final whistle blew, the girls lined up to receive their medals, with team captain Charlotte Smith lifting the trophy – setting off further spraying of Prosecco. The team, coaches and assorted others then headed off for a barbecue which went on into the early hours.
The league having been decided, Queens now look forward to a ”3 out of 4” promotion playoff. Queens take on Harmony Row at NWCC on Sunday 4th June with a 2pm kick off, with the winners being promoted automatically and the losers taking part in a second playoff against the losing team from the other playoff between Bonnyrigg Rose and Forfar Farmington.
