Queens Ladies headed up the A76 on Sunday for a Biffa SWFL league fixture against an Ayr United team who have their own title ambitions.
However as Rabbie Burns noted, the best laid schemes o’ mice & men gang aft agley, & it didn’t take long for Queens to plough a furrow through the Ayr defence when Holly Ovens broke through slot home after 8 minutes.
Queens dominated the first half but couldn’t quite get into their stride, and Ayr grabbed an equaliser just before half time. Queens came out for the second half determined to take the game to Ayr and they regained the lead when Georgia Wilson scored from close range, and the same player quickly grabbed Queens’ third goal.
Queens were well on top now and Charlotte Bryden added a fourth from inside the six yard box following a Queens corner. Leona Smith scored a fifth goal for Queens after a quickly taken free kick, and Queens headed home with their 100% record still intact and a three point lead over Ayr in the title race.
