Last year Rock Up and Ride was launched by Scottish Cycling thanks to the funding from Transport Scotland, to remove the barriers to our community riding bikes. This year Rock Up & Ride will be funded by SWESTRANS.
Starting this Autumn, The Rock Up and Ride program will come to Dalbeattie Initiative. Initiative Project Coordinators Maria and Tom who will work in Partnership with Galloway Hillbillies and Scottish Cycling to cover the Southwest Region of Dumfries Galloway. Rocks and Wheels will host the planned sessions organised in Dalbeattie, as this opportunity comes at an exciting time to feed into the Centre opening in 2026 alongside other planned events.
Rock Up and Ride is a series of fun, free and easy to access fully inclusive sessions aimed at people in our community from group rides to 1-1 confidence building rides. The sessions will vary depending on the individual needs. Working alongside local school’s bike-ability program we want to offer parents or guardians of the children an opportunity to join us on bike rides to learn about safe and fun routes they can take their children out on locally, so they can continue to improve on bike skills and confidence. We have the Junior Hardrock in October and will incorporate training sessions for both adult and child to cycle the junior routes, plus the cycle challenge in June 2025.
Rocks and Wheels is to host the Rock Up and Ride programme after its positive pilot scheme. This is a great opportunity for more biking events in the area, as well as supporting those who ride to work, ride to race, or just ride for the fun of it. Supporting the Rock Up & Ride ethos “to change lives through cycling”.
There will be opportunities for ride leader training through Scottish Cycling. The Initiative are currently looking for individuals to join the team to help deliver the sessions. More details of training opportunities to follow.
