Thornhill motor racing star Ross Wylie enjoyed success at Brands Hatch yesterday 11 May, taking his tally of Dunlop Endurance Championship class podiums to four from six races. The Thornhill ace along with co-driver David Mason recorded second place in both 60min races around the 1.21-mile Brands Hatch “Indy” circuit.
Wylie secured his first outright pole-position of the season and led the opening 13 wet laps before handing the Ferrari 488 Challenge over to Mason. Race Two was run in dry conditions and saw Wylie start fifth but was in the lead by lap four, leading until lap 24. Unfortunately two separate Safety Car periods due to on-track incidents, cruelly cancelled out commanding leads of 11secs and 21secs respectively.
Ross from Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway commented: “I have lots of positives to take away with two second place class finishes, two fastest laps and an overall pole position but luck wasn’t on our side as victories were within our grasp. The Safety Car interventions hit our car hard because it meant as the ‘pro’ driver, I was unable to hand the Ferrari over to David with enough of a lead for him to then hold off the pro drivers in the other cars that were on a different strategy. But he did a great job and brought the car home each time. I showed good pace over the whole weekend, in both wet and dry conditions, and was really happy with my own performance. The FF Corse team did a great job all weekend and it was a shame not to reward them with a victory.”
