Sharks Gift Toys to Local Kids in Hospital

The Building Craftsmen Sponsored Solway Sharks Ice Hockey Club held their “Hurl a Hug” night on Saturday 11th December at Dumfries Ice Bowl. Fans of the club showed their generosity by throwing 60 new soft toys onto the Ice after the first period in the Sharks’ game again YKK Widnes Wild.

In attendance at the game were 10 NHS Staff from ward 15 (children’s ward) of DGRI to receive the toys. The toys will be gifted to children who are in the ward over the Christmas period. The staff who attended the game had a great night and were pictured at the end of the match with some of the players for a presentation of the toys on the ice.

Senior Charge Nurse Sarah Murphy said “The Children’s Ward are delighted to receive the donation of toys from the Solway Sharks ‘Hurl a hug’ event.  These toys will be gifted to poorly children who attend hospital throughout the Christmas period.  We really appreciate the Solway Sharks spreading some Christmas joy.”
Solway Sharks club chairmen added “This is something the club wanted to do, we hope this will become an annual event and I want to thank our amazing fans who donated toys so generously for a very worthy cause. We hope that they are well “hugged” by the children who receive them.”
