A much closer game than the result suggests. Ardrossan showed much improvement from last season and put up areal fight, but were eventually out-muscled by the Blacks.
Stewartry Under 18’s – 58
Ardrossan Under 18’s – 14
Stewartry took the game up front right from kick off and were much stronger in scrum and dominant in line out with Alasdair Hannay taking loads of ball from the opposition. Murray Wright scored the first try after bursting through the Ardrossan pack. This was followed soon after by a similar effort from Tom Allan. Finlay Smith added another under the posts following a very well executed planned move from the scrum, Archie Picken converted. Kieren McGure and Finlay Smith each scored another before half time.
Ardrossan came back in the second half with two very well executed tries, but Stewartry stepped up the gas, and Kieren McGure charged over the line under the posts from close in to score his second. Tommy McGrath came on in the second half and Ardrossan could not handle is power, pace and angled running, and he quickly added another two tries.
Well done to the Stewartry pack who put in a very strong performance, and great to see Danny Perkins and Brady Rutherford back playing and making some fine breaks, resulting in a great try for Brady. Archie Picken finished the game off with a try. Some great tackling this week and man of the match has to go to the very powerful Gregor Hamblin, who put his body on the line time and time again.
A good solid win, and a great display by the forwards, but much to work on before next Saturday’s game via old rivals, and top of the league Kilmarnock.
