Stewartry remain top of Tennent’s West One league With Victory Against Kilmarnock In Stewartry’s last home game of the season Kilmarnock shocked the Blacks with the opening try in only three minutes as they won the first line outs and drove over the line 0-7 Kilmarnock.
Hogg and Yates were soon attacking the Kilmarnock defence setting John Picken in for the Blacks first try in seventeen minutes. David Armstrong added the conversion 7-7.
Stewartry continued to press and in the twentythird minutes had a try dissallowed. Eleven minutes later Forsyth put TJ McCarney in for a second try Armstrong added the conversion 14-7.
Just before half time Stewartry’s Root was yellow carded for a scrum infringement.
Stewartry started the second half on a high using the wind to advantage in the first minute Forsyth again leading the way and Stevie Hogg scoring the third try. Armstrong converted 21-7.
Fifty one minutes and Stewartry added the bonus point try with forwards Porteous, Forsyth and McCulloch setting TJ McCarney clear to give Captain John Picken his second try. Armstrong converted. 28-7. Fifty minutes and Kilmarnock were reduced to fourteen men for a yellow card. Maxwell driving forward set Hogg in for his second try 33-7 to the Blacks. Replacement Murray Wright’s first touch saw him cross the line but the try was dissallowed for a previous forward pass. Kilmarnock hit back with a second push over try 33-12.
In the final minute Stewartry scored a sixth try for a second week in a row Stevie Hogg completing his hattrick of tries. David Armstrong added his fifth conversion 40-12 the final score Stewartry making it a third league win in a row over Kilmarnock since the first league game in 1993.
Stewartry remain top of Tennent’s West One league on 79pts ahead of second placed Allan Glen’s on 78pts who beat East Kilbride 67-3 on the Friday night.
