A great end to a brilliant season for the young Stewartry Team, who won all three games they played in. The tournament was played in atrocious conditions and was cut short due to the heavy rain and bitter cold. All credit to Stewartry & Cumnock who fought it out to the bitter end and were last men standing on the day.
Player of the tournament for Stewartry was Connor McGuire (retaining this award from the same S1 tournament last year). However special mention this week to Oskar Wnuk and Archie Picken who both had three superb games with Oskar scoring two tries and Archie three.
Some great handling at times in dreadfully slippy conditions and some great scrummaging in all three games. It Would be safe to say that team discipline slipped towards the end of a wet, cold, tiring, frustrating day, and this will be worked on and improved for next season. Too many great tries to choose from, but pick of the bunch would be Oskar Wnuk’s skilful scoop up off the ground and dive over following a great trademark break by Joseph Strain. Archie Holman & Rian Florence both scored good tries in the first game from strong straight running.
Great scrummaging & hooking throughout the day, and tackling in the tough Marr game was excellent.
Still plenty to work on for next season when the team move up to Under 15 level though!!
In summary a fantastic year for Stewartry winning 26 games in total (thirteen wins at 15-A Side & an unbeaten thirteen in three tournaments – winning Annan & Moffat Seven’s in the process) 1 draw and only two very, very narrow defeats away from home. Unbeaten at home all season and back to April 2014. Many of the game’s being played against full S2 sides.
Players player of the year was chosen, and Scrum Half Archie Nicholson was the players choice. Thoroughly deserved for his work ethic, skilful play, good sportsmanship and personal dicipline.
Huge thanks go to Coach Andy Milligan who has worked very hard to shape this team along with help from George Nicholson, and others. A very big thank you to Liz Budde and her assistants who organised all the home catering. Special mention to Lotus Electrical who so kindly sponsored the all weather training tops for the boys (giving the team a real sense of togetherness) and they were certainly put to good use in many of the game played in dreadful weather.
