Despite the torrential showers in the morning, the clouds cleared to leave a beautiful sunny day for Galloway Cricket Club’s annual Cocoa Bean Cup schools kwik cricket festival on Monday 20th June.
Transport presented an issue for several schools this year and we had a few last minute call offs however the festival was still well-attended by 7 teams from local schools. The festival is an end of term competition which follows on from all the coaching that the children have received both at school and at the club throughout the spring term.
Games got under way quickly and it didn’t take newbies long to find their feet and get the hang of this fantastic team sport with so many different elements. There were some outstanding performances and individual awards were given to Murray from Crossmichael, Yasmin from Gatehouse, Gregor from Crossmichael and Euan from Gatehouse. The winners on the day however, and the school which picked up the trophy for the second year in a row was Gatehouse Primary School (Gatehouse Geckos.)
Galloway Cricket Club would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time to come along and make this festival possible. It was a team effort from the helpers which made the day such a success. Special thanks must also go to the Cocoa Bean Company for kindly sponsoring the event.
The club will be running lots of camps and training sessions for all ages throughout the summer so please get in touch to find out more (Natalie 07872 909 010 or [email protected])
