Annandale Sailing Club members were finally able to gather for their Covid-delayed 2021-season prizegiving on Sunday March 27th.
After hosting tea and cake on the new clubhouse terrace in warm spring sunshine, Commodore Elaine Ross welcomed guests to the event which celebrated the achievements of sailors over last season.
The start of the 2021 programme was delayed by pandemic restrictions, but got underway in May and several racing series and special events took place.
Elaine said: “It was a pleasure to get together and celebrate achievements over what has been a challenging couple of years both on and off the water.
“In spite of this we have seen the development of a thriving junior section and a super new addition to the club house which supports more access and provides an excellent viewing spot.
“We have an exciting season ahead and look forward to welcoming potential new members, and visitors at our open day on Sunday 8th May.”
Overall club champion for 2021 was Streaker sailor Trudie Mitchell, who also won the Autumn Handicap.
Guy Wheeler, the Club’s new Sailing Secretary, won the Winter Cup, Commodore’s Cup and Beveridge Jug Regatta, while David Richardson won the Summer Handicap in his Finn. Richard Bryant won the Spring Handicap and Tolly Franklin won the September Regatta.
Top junior sailor last year was Jack Vivers who won the Junior Autumn Series, a Sunday morning series, and the Junior Capsize Cup for most improved young sailor, as well as the overall Junior Club Championship.
Other prize winners in the junior section were Murray Wilson, Katie and Jess Brown, Thomas McKendrick and Jess Fox.
The Enthusiast’s Trophy, for outstanding volunteer, was awarded to teenager Rhiannon Fox and the Capsize Cup for most improved adult sailor went to Alison McKendrick, who also won the the Summer Regatta.
A full programme of racing and training for 2022 is now underway and the annual Open Day makes a post-Covid return on May 8. For more information about Annandale Sailing Club see www.annansail.co.uk
