A solid two days of racing was on offer at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow this weekend.
Dumfries cyclist Sam Barbour (18) was on top form, securing 3 medals in 3 events.
Starting with an individual pursuit of 3 kilometres, Sam got a new personal best and was able to finish second. Next up was a scratch race which is 80 laps (20 kilometres) round the velodrome, after a cagey race Sam managed to sneak off the front with 3 kilometres to go and rode solo to take the gold medal.
Sam said afterwards ”I’m super pleased to win my first Scottish Championship, after only seven months racing on the track. I came into this weekend with low expectations but I’ve felt really strong racing over the weekend.
Sam’s final race of the weekend was a points race, where every 10 laps there is a sprint for points and the rider with the most points at the end wins.
Sam had the most points all the way through right up until the last sprint where he was pipped to the line, narrowly missing out on a second Scottish Title.
