Dumfriesshire Race Ace Ross Wylie brought the curtain down on a busy, varied and successful motor racing season by posting two top-nine placings at Brands Hatch (24 Oct).
Contesting the final two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ross swept his Bell Group/ Glen Turret Whiskey supported Carrera home ninth and eighth in the two 14-lap races around the historic 2.43-mile Grand Prix circuit in Kent.
Ross only joined the Porsche one-make series for the final six races in September but nevertheless achieved six top-nine finishes in a year that saw Wylie compete in four different championships driving a diverse array of sportscars.
Wylie claimed the GT Cup GTO Championship title this year, the Scotsman’s sixth title of his career, scoring nine GTO podiums – including six victories – accomplished in a variety of cars including a Ferrari, Brabham and McLaren.
He also raced a Ferrari in the Britcar series and British GT Championship. Ross claimed a dominant Britcar class win along with co-driver Lucky Khera in the first race at Silverstone in April before achieving a category third place with him in the BGT, car owner Khera deciding not to continue in either series for personal reasons.
In 2021, Ross competed in 19 races claiming a total of one outright race victory plus 11 class podiums – including six wins – and six fastest race laps.

“Overall it’s been a good year. Winning the GT Cup GTO Championship title with Paul Bailey and the SB Race Engineering team, was very satisfying, while I was very proud to be selected as a Full Member of the prestigious British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) earlier this year.
“Brands was a hard weekend. We struggled with a handling imbalance that we couldn’t cure. The dampers were changed after the previous event which improved one issue but we then developed another problem on the front of the car at Brands.
“An issue like that makes life very difficult in such a cutthroat, one-make championship. Looking back over the past six Porsche races, it’s been a bit of a roller coaster, coming into the series near the end but I’ve really enjoyed working with the Valluga Concierge team.
“It’s now time to start planning for next season. There’s a lot of exciting things in the pipeline that will hopefully come to fruition for me in 2022 which I’ll now be focussing on.”
