2023 Series runner-up Ross bids for glory with Toro Verde GT in televised Porsche championship
Thornhill’s Ross Wylie aims to go one better and claim this year’s prestigious Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am Driver’s title.
Wylie drives a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car entered and prepared by the West Yorkshire-based Toro Verde GT team determined to reverse last year’s disappointment when the Dumfries driver missed out on the “crown” by just seven-points in the hotly-contested series.
The televised eight-event, 16-race championship gets underway at Donington Park later this month (27-28 Apr) with Wylie again receiving support from The Glenturret, Scotland’s oldest working distillery and Glasgow-based confectionery company, Tunnock’s. Additionally, long-standing sponsors, AL-2 Teknik UK, a specialised water treatment service provider, PyroDry, plus Carronbridge Sawmill, all three based in Ross’s hometown of Thornhill, will back Ross’s exploits once again.
Ross, who had a partial season with Toro Verde GT in 2022, finished in the Pro-Am top-five on 13 occasions last year, including nine podiums and six wins. In eight qualifying sessions that set grid positions for the opening races, he claimed front row positions on six occasions – including a pole-position at his “home” Knockhill event which is again staged in August (10-11) this year.
Ross Wylie (GB):
Age 32. Born & Lives Thornhill nr Dumfries, Scotland:
“I’m very excited to be returning to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB grid with the intention of going one place better than last year and win the Pro-Am division.“I tested at Donington Park and then in an official test at Brands Hatch this week which gave me the opportunity to dust off the cobwebs behind the wheel.
“I had a few races with Toro Verde GT in the Porsche series two years ago, posting a couple of top-seven overall placings, so I’m delighted to be back racing with them this year.
“The entry in this year’s championship looks even stronger if that’s possible so it’s going to be a tough fight all season. But I’m up for the challenge and gunning for success.”
