Thornhill’s Ross Wylie scored two GTO class wins at Oulton Park last weekend (1 Jul) to remain at the head of both the overall and GTO class GT Cup Championship standings with co-driver Paul Bailey.
Wylie and Bailey were making their series debut in a Lamborghini Huracan after previous races in a Brabham BT62 Competition and Mercedes AMG GT3. Ross previously raced a Huracan in March 2021 scoring two British GT Championship class podiums.
He didn’t get to drive in the opening race in which Bailey claimed a class win for them both with seventh place overall. The race, staged in fast changing weather conditions, was abandoned and not re-started after just two laps following an accident.
Ross did get behind the wheel of the Lamborghini in the shortened but dry 30mins second race, Wylie taking to the 2.7-mile Cheshire circuit with 12mins remaining placed 10th but leading the GTO class following its regulated 100secs pit-stop.
The Scotsman, often clocking faster lap times than the overall top-three cars, swept the Lambo into sixth overall at the chequered flag after 18-laps along with setting the quickest GTO lap of the race.
Next up for Wylie is a prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race that supports the iconic British Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone next Sunday (9 Jul). Ross makes a guest, one-off appearance in what is the international pinnacle of the Porsche one-make cups.
Practice for the 14-lap (30mins) race is staged on Friday (7 Jul), qualifying for the anticipated 30-car field on Saturday with the race around the legendary 3.66-mile GP circuit in Northamptonshire on Sunday. His Richardson Racing Porsche will be supported by The Glenturret, Tunnocks and PyroDry.

“It’s good to retain our championship leads although it was strange to ‘win’ the first race without actually stepping into the Lamborghini. With the second race being shortened, I didn’t get much of an opportunity to make up many places but we were happy with sixth place.“But I now focus on my one-off Porsche Supercup appearance at Silverstone next weekend. My goal is to have fun but also to do a good job for my main sponsor, The Glenturret, and also new partner for this event, Tunnocks. Silverstone’s GP circuit is one of my favourite tracks while it’s also ‘home’ to the BRDC, a club I’ve been connected with since 2014.”
