Thornhill Race Ace Ross Wylie chalks up fourth Britcar victory of the season in maiden evening race.
Ross Wylie remains in contention for Britcar Endurance Championship title honours after the young Dumfries and Galloway driver along with co-driver Witt Gamski recorded their fourth outright race victory of the season yesterday evening (5 Nov). Wylie and Gamski swept their Ferrari 458 GT to glory in a two-hour race on Silverstone’s National circuit that ended in darkness.
The 26-year-old Dumfries driver set the second fastest time in qualifying, denied pole-position by a mere 0.002secs by a more powerful and aerodynamically efficient sports-prototype, Gamski taking the start and handing the Ferrari over to Wylie in the mandatory 150secs pit-stop with 70mins remaining of a race held in dry but cold weather conditions. Ross was immediately posting fastest laps and eating into the Radical’s lead.
Wylie forged his way to the front, setting the fastest race lap enroute to securing his fourth outright race win of the season in the MJC Furlonger prepared Ferrari. The duo began today’s race with a five-point advantage in the overall championship standings and head to the final two-hour race of the season on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit on 19 November, with a mere one-point lead.

“It was good to get another win with Witt [Gamski]. The MJC Furlonger team do a great job in terms of preparation and strategy. It was my first ever race that ended in darkness – it was a challenge but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve raced in the Gulf 12 Hours previously but the track is lit by floodlights, making it brighter than daylight, but for this race it was just the cars’ headlights lighting the track. I’d just missed out on ‘pole’ due to Yellow Flags meaning I had to slow but Witt did a good job in the opening stint of the race. The leading Radical sports-prototype was delayed by a technical issue and although I had to conserve fuel to get us home to the chequered flag, the team’s calculations were bang on – meanwhile the Radical ran out of fuel. Unfortunately, only two other cars compete in our class which means we don’t get full points awarded. That’s a shame as we’re winning races outright but those are the rules and so we have to accept the situation. In terms of Brands, we’ll head there and just hope for the best, we go there aiming to win the race and in terms of the championship, that’s out of our hands.”
