Thornhill Race ace ‘Ross Wylie’ starts from “pole”, scores two overall rostrum finishes & sets fastest lap in both races at SNETTERTON.
Ross emphatically won the latest round of the Britcar Endurance Championship at Snetterton last weekend (6 May). The 25-year-old Scotsman from Thornhill scored a dominant outright victory in the main two-hour race plus a further overall rostrum in the earlier qualifying event.
Wylie’s co-driver Witt Gamski started the 50mins qualifying race from pole-position after Ross’s exploits in time trials earlier in the day with the 2014 British GT4 Champion getting behind the wheel of the MJC Furlonger prepared Ferrari 458 GT after 15-laps. Ross had sliced through to within 0.121secs of the second-placed car when the chequered flag came out after 26-laps.
Ross, who had finished second and third in class in the opening races at Silverstone a month ago, took over from Gamski on lap 24 and nine laps later had taken the Ferrari in to the overall lead of the race. As in the opening race, Wylie set the fastest race lap and ultimately won the race staged on the 2.97-mile Silverstone 300 track by a staggering 38secs. Ross returns to Porsche Carrera Cup GB action at Oulton Park in Cheshire on 19-21 May in his Carronbridge Sawmill (Dumfries) 911 GT3 Cup car prepared by SlideSports.

“As a race driver there’s no better feeling than climbing on to the top step of the podium. It was almost the perfect weekend. I qualified on ‘pole’ by nearly half a second for the opening race. Witt had a great opening lap but unfortunately was tagged in to a spin and re-joined at the back of the field. He made a great recovery before pitting to me. I had a hard charge to the flag, finishing third and narrowly missing out on second place overall having also set the fastest race lap.“Witt handed the Ferrari over to me in third place having done a great job in the opening phase of the main race. I quickly charged to the front, banging in the fastest race lap, and had stretched out an advantage of almost 40secs by the finish. The MJC Furlonger team did a great job and it is a great pleasure working with them. I’m now focussing on the next Porsche race at Oulton Park. I tested there recently and made more progress with the 911 so I’m very hopeful of scoring some good points in both races.”
