Young Sharks The Driving Force in Scotland’s International Success

Six Solway Sharks u16 players where this selected for this year’s Scotland National Team, the team enjoyed success in May this year beating England over 3 games in a warm up series of games in preparation for them travelling to an International tournament in Hamikovo, Solvakia last week where they battled with teams from Solvakia, Czechia, and Team England. 

The local players were selected for the National U16 team after taking part in a number of trials and then showing their commitment and skill levels during the national training days that happen once a month at Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Defencemen Ewan Duignan and Owen Rae, netminder Logan Reid, and forwards Connor Lee, Bailey Thomson and Tomas Vyrostek, where all vital players for the national team over the 3 days event helping them to 3 victories over 5 games to top the table and win the tournament.  Owen Rae had the honour of being named Captain of the squad and was also named Scotland’s MVP of the tournament, recognising his huge contribution over the course of the tournament.

Solway Sharks Coach Jamie Thomson commented, “This is a prestigious international tournament and the Scotland team played consistently well against talented opposition to take the 2023 EMF Bratislava trophy. We are very proud of these young Sharks, what a season they have had, A League title, The Scottish Cup Champions and now Six of them have helped deliver this.
They are all athletes who have a big future in our sport. To be selected to represent your country is a huge honour and to have 6 players in one team from Solway just shows how strong our clubs development pathway is. We are all over the moon for the boys and look forward to seeing more success in the future as they progress in their hockey careers.”
