As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ’s investment into the resurfacing of the A76 will soon exceed £3Million.
With three major investment projects to come over the next couple of months, South West Scotland’s trunk road operating company will have improved nearly 6km of carriageway since the Crockroy to High Cairn programme in June last year.
Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Roads Design Engineer said:
“While this is a significant investment to improve the A76 over the last few months, there will be no rest for the Scotland TranServ team as we work with communities to identify areas of the carriageway requiring treatment, and we develop resurfacing schemes able to deliver tangible, long-term benefits to this important trunk road connecting communities in Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire.
“The delivery of this programme is testament to our ongoing consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key local stakeholders in scheduling our works to have limited impact on communities, and to plan any disruption around important days in their calendar wherever possible.”
On behalf of Transport Scotland, further investment is planned for the months ahead, including:
- A76 Glenramskill Avenue to Skares Road – The resurfacing of 620m of the A76 trunk road outside Cumnock is scheduled for early June. It is currently proposed that the £370k will be carried out under weekend closure of the trunk road
- A76 Polneul to High Cairn – The £448k project will see the resurfacing of nearly 1km of carriageway between New Cumnock and Kirkconnel. Works are currently being proposed to be carriedout under weekend closure at the end of May
- A76 Lugar Water to Pennylands – Scotland TranServ is currently proposing to carry out the resurfacing of 710m of the A78 between Auchinleck and Cumnock. The £446k programme of work is scheduled for late June
This investment programme into the A76 is among a series of such programmes being carried out by Scotland TranServ across South West Scotland, supporting the economic growth and development of the area.
