Advance warning of A75 Barlae to Knockishee Resurfacing

As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will resurface 1.5km of the A75 between Barlae and Knockishee, between Newton Stewart and Glenluce between Friday the 19^th and Sunday the 28^th of July.

Further to consultation with the local community and key stakeholders, the project was rescheduled to avoid disruption to the Skiffie World Championships at Stranraer.

In order to minimise the impact on commuters, businesses and freight traffic, works will be carried out under contraflow between Friday the 19^th and Sunday the 28^th of July.

Tony Chambers, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead on the resurfacing scheme said:

“The scheduling of these works proves that our extensive consultation process is working. We received a number of enquiries from stakeholders and community representatives after we issued the proposed initial timing of this project. With organisers forecasting that the event will attract tens of thousands of spectators to the area, on this occasion we were happy to reshuffle our programme to accommodate.”

The Barlae to Knockishee resurfacing project is part of a wider programme of works being delivered by Scotland TranServ across Dumfries and Galloway and South Ayrshire over the next few months.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Road Design Engineer added:

“Following consultation with the local community, we’ve shuffled around more than a million pounds worth of resurfacing works in support of this event. With peak holiday seasons, local events and other local authority and utility company works, we have a limited window of opportunity in which to deliver our £14million trunk road resurfacing programme. We will continue to consult communities across South West Scotland and to engage them in the planning of our important resurfacing programme.”

In order to complete this programme as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary implement a contraflow, with a single lane running in each direction. The contraflow will be in place during the following times:

• 7pm on Friday 19^th to 6am on Sunday 28^th July
