Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking road safety works on the A75/A76 at Cuckoo Bridge Roundabout from Monday 21st March until Saturday 26th March 2022, between the hours of 8pm and 6am, each night.
This scheme, with a value of £85,000, will benefit around 22,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and overall road safety, including resurfacing and road marking improvements.
The work will be carried out using phased lane closures of the roundabout circulatory requiring a closure of the A76 roundabout arms for the duration of the works with diversion routes in place. Temporary traffic lights shall also be in operation on the A75 roundabout arms for the duration of the works.
Diversion routes are as follows:
A76 Northbound/Southbound Diversion
Southbound traffic will be diverted from the A76 onto Lochside Road, and will then use Alloway Road, Hardthorn Road, Terregles Street and Lochfield Road, finally joining the A76 Glasgow Street. The above route shall be used in reverse for A76 Northbound traffic.
A75 Eastbound Heading North/A76 Southbound Heading West Diversion
Traffic will be diverted from the A75 onto the A780 Castle Douglas Road and will then use the A780 Laurieknowe and A76 Glasgow Street before joining the A76 Northbound/Southbound diversion detailed above. The described route shall be used in reverse for A76 Southbound traffic heading west to the A75.
A75 Westbound Heading North/A76 Southbound Heading East North of A701 Diversion
Traffic will be diverted from the A75 onto the A701 Edinburgh Road and will then use the A780 Buccleuch Street and A75 Glasgow Street before joining the A76 Northbound/Southbound diversion detailed above. The described route shall be used in reverse for A76 Southbound traffic heading east to the A701.
A75 Westbound Heading North/A76 Southbound Heading East of Dumfries Diversion
A75 Westbound traffic will be diverted from the A75 onto the A780 Annan Road and will then use the A780 English Street, A781 Shakespeare Street, A781 White Sands, A780 and A76 Glasgow Street before joining the A76 Northbound/Southbound diversion detailed above.
A76 Southbound traffic will follow the A76 Northbound/Southbound diversion route detailed above before using the A780 Buccleuch Street, A780 Loreburn Street, A780 English Street and A780 Annan Road finally joining the A75.
Dumfries Retail Park and Maxwelltown Industrial Estate will operate as normal between the hours of 6am and 8pm. Restricted access will be provided to these locations during the overnight works (8pm to 6am).
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
